I've been on a little hiatus from writing fix reviews so instead of a review, I'd like to share with you how I've tracked down some of my most wanted Stitch Fix items, otherwise known as a unicorn. What's a unicorn, you ask? In the world of Stitch Fix, a unicorn is that elusive item that you most desire. The top that you dream about. The dress that makes you drool every time you see it. You've asked or even begged your stylist for it. You know it's out there somewhere, but it has eluded you.
You can request an item, pin it on your Pinterest board a thousand times, and even pray to receive it, but sometimes despite your pleas your stylist just can't deliver. It might not be in stock in your size or maybe your stylist simply enjoys torturing you (kidding). Whatever the reason, the longer you don't get that item, the more your insanity grows.
And when that happens to me, it becomes my mission to chase down that unicorn.
I'm a member of the Stitch Fix group on Facebook, along with over 38,000 fellow fixers. This group only had about 5,000 members when I originally joined last year. It has grown to staggering numbers! In this group, people share pics of their fixes, post items for sale, and share fashion advice. It's really a lovely community of women! They have a Unicorn Wednesday thread where everyone posts their current obsession in hopes that someone out there might have it and make their dreams come true. But the truth is, with such a large group, it's a miracle if you actually score one of your unicorns on this site. You have to be in the right place at the right time, because surely if there's an item you want, there are probably 100 other women who want it, too. You have to be ready to jump the moment you see it posted because within minutes, it's gone. Even someone with a faster WiFi connection can stand between you and your beloved.
Still, this Facebook group is an excellent place to start the search for your unicorns. This top was a unicorn of mine because I was drawn to the bright colors and casual vibe. I purchased this Pixley top from someone in the group who was doing a closet clean out.
Has anyone else ever felt let down once they received their unicorn? I know I can't be the only one! Don't worry, I'll still wear this top, I just need to figure out which necklace to wear with it to fill that wide neckline.
Fun fact...while I was working on writing this post last week, Jackie at Moxie actually went on an all day unicorn hunt at a consolidator to try to find unicorns for Moxie members. How cool is that?
Moxie carries many of the same brands as Stitch Fix and their business description is that 'Moxie Style was born from the love of fashion and a great deal' and they do in fact have great deals! I paid $27 for this top ($54 Stitch Fix retail price). I am a sucker for embroidery and the fabric is so soft!
If you have any questions about these groups or sites, please let me know! I would love to help you find your unicorn, too.
For my upcoming fix, I've put my stylist on special assignment: send me a dress for my daughter's 8th grade graduation. I can't wait to see what I get and I promise to share it here with you.
Until then, thanks so much for stopping by!
