Summer weather is here and another school year is almost done. I could not be more excited! I'm ready for some sun and fun, and I need some amazing clothes to wear while I'm having an amazing summer. (Expectations vs. reality: The amazing summer I'm picturing where my kids exist happily and harmoniously will come to a screeching halt after about 2 weeks and I'll consider even 5 minutes of peace amazing, but hey, I still need to look good!)
For this fix, I asked my stylist to 'think summer'. My stylist was once again Ashley. She wrote a super sweet, personal note and she definitely paid attention to my Pinterest board and my notes to her. She was on the right track with the items she chose for me. Bright colors and fun prints! It all definitely fits the bill for summer, but for one reason or another, (spoiler alert) most of these pieces didn't work for me. Summer bummer!
If you've stumbled upon this blog and have no idea what Stitch Fix is, here's the low down. Stitch Fix is a personal styling service that's fun, simple, and set to your budget. I'm going to begin with this little number. You might look at this dress and think 'what a pretty yellow dress'. I look at this dress and all I can think is 'this is exactly like my Carol Brady Halloween costume'. Wait for it...
Am I right or am I right? Side note - this vintage 70's dress is made of a horrid, thick fabric and the neckline is so tight, it practically chokes me. It literally pains me to wear it. And yes, I cut my husband AKA Mike Brady out of the picture but trust me, his 70's powder blue leisure suit is awesome...um, I mean groovy!
So...back to the Kensie dress. It has an adorable retro looking pattern and is a lemony shade of yellow. Love that it has pockets and the pleats are cute. Here are some things I ponder about this dress: If I could get over the Carol Brady thing, does this color wash me out or does it look good on me? Do the pleats and pockets work for me or against me? I don't have a natural instinct about these things, which is why I make a lot of shopping mistakes and ride the buy and return merry-go-round too often.

The fabric is beautiful but not at all practical for my day-to-day summer life. If I had a garden tea party or maybe an outdoor wedding to attend, this dress would be perfection. But, my amazing summer is sadly both tea party and wedding free, so back this dress went.

Here's the second dress my stylist chose for me this fix. It's so beautiful! The fabric is incredibly soft, I love the green and white, and I'm a sucker for a chevron print. It fit very well all around. The length was good, no gaping armholes, and it pairs nicely with a denim jacket for a casual summer look. Unfortunatley, I'm not a fan of the blousy upper half. I sort of like it, but not enough that I would reach for this dress in my closet. I also prefer a slightly wider strap. Wah wah wah.
I'm sure many of you are thinking I'm crazy because this dress is beautiful (and it fit). But I continue to evolve on this journey with Stitch Fix and even though this dress was a winner in so many ways, it just wasn't 100% right for me. So close, Ashley! (Even as I type this, I'm kind of regretting sending this dress back. I bet once my amazing summer really gets underway, I'll wish I had this dress.)

Next up, these jeans. Very cool 'ice grey' wash, which reads as white to me but not a bright white. Love the color! Stitch Fix successfully sent me skinny jeans in my first fix (you can read about it here - Miracles Do Happen) so I had high hopes for these. In the photo above, I think they look great. Sexy, even.
This is such a gorgeous top! Look at that color. The pattern is super fun and the stud detail is fabulous. It even came with a nude cami to wear underneath. One huge problem for me: it's sheer. I don't do sheer. I admit one of the reasons I'm using Stitch Fix is to get out of my comfort zone and try new things, but sheer fabrics are never going to be in my comfort zone.
It's like a sensory thing for me or something. I can't stand the feel of it on my skin. Ashely had no way of knowing this information, so no hard feelings Ash. I totally get why she chose this top for me and dang I look good in it! But I can't. I just can't.
Oh my gosh, I just had a lightbulb moment while writing this, because my daughter has been fussy about the way clothes and fabrics feel her whole life and I always thought it was just her being a drama queen, but maybe she gets it from me! Gasp.
Verdict: Returned

But what you can't see, and what I'm going to spare you from, is what's happening underneath that shirt. They are supposedly a mid-rise but they are definitley not rising up to the mid on this body! If I could wear these jeans and remain upright all day, no problem. If I had to sit down in them, well then we'd have a problem.
Okay, so maybe I'm exaggerating a little but that's how I felt in them. Not happening! I know a lot of people love the Mavi brand so I'll have to give them another shot in a different style.

And finally, DING DING DING we have a winner! I love this jacket! It's a little stretchy, has some distressed areas, and is a dark wash that will look great with pretty much anything.
VERDICT: Kept
Only one keeper this time but I'm not disappointed. Well, maybe a little disappointed because truth is, I really do need some summer clothes! I had a lot of fun trying these pieces, I left some solid feedback on what didn't work about them, and I'm excited to see what goodies come my way next go around!
