WHAT
Stitch Fix is a styling service that delivers five personally selected items (clothing, accessories, or shoes) to your doorstep. You keep what you like, return what you don't like, then wear your new clothes and wait for the compliments to pour in. Where did you get that beautiful top? My stylist selected it for me (I love saying that).
WHO AND WHY
Stitch Fix is for someone who has a passion for fashion. It's also perfect for someone who could use a little help revamping her style (like me). That insanely busy working mother of 3 kids under age 10 who never has time to shop? It's for her. It's for anyone who wants to experience having a personal stylist for an extremely reasonable fee. Stitch Fix is currently styling women in sizes 0/XS - 14/XL and also offers petite sizes and maternity. Coming soon: Stitch Fix for men!
WHEN
It's up to you how often you get your fix! You can schedule it monthly, every other month, or just hit them up whenever the moods strikes you. For the completely obsessed, impatient, I-Must-Have-It-Now gal, you can even schedule your fixes to arrive every 2-3 weeks. (Trust me, it's all I can do to stop myself from doing this.)
HOW
The first step is completing a profile on their website, detailing your style preferences, your height and weight, the typical sizes you wear, your preferred budget for each category, and so on. It should take about 10 minutes to complete the profile.
Here's the thing...you need to be honest. Don't select the size you'd like to be. Don't select a budget you're not comfortable with. The stylists at Stitch Fix are pretty fabulous, but they aren't mind readers. They rely on you to give them accurate information so they can put together an amazing fix for you!
It's extremely helpful if you link your Pinterest account to your profile. If you don't have a Pinterest account or a fashion/style board on Pinterest, create one pronto. The stylist will review your pins and get an idea of what you gravitate toward. If you pin a specific item that someone else got in their fix, the stylist might include it in your fix so get busy pinning!
WHERE
Your doorstep is where the magic happens. The box is delivered and it's like Christmas morning. I've read countless blogs where the author compares receiving their Stitch Fix box to Christmas and I always thought that's just ludicrous, it can't possibly compare to Christmas. But I was wrong. It's exactly like Christmas morning! You are ridiculously excited to open that box and you can't stop smiling. You are jumping up and down, mentally if not physically.
You try everything on in your own home, where you can dig into your closet and pair your fix items with things you already have. You should try on everything in your fix, even if you think 'there's no way I'd ever wear that'. You might be surprised! Each item comes with a styling card with two suggestions of how to wear the item. These cards are ah-mazing!
HOW MUCH
A $20 styling fee is applied to your account when the stylist begins working on your fix. The $20 fee is applied to anything you purchase (i.e. you keep a $48 top and the $20 is deducted from that price). If you decide not to keep anything and return it all, you're out the $20. If this happens, you need to have a heart to heart with your stylist. Give them some solid feedback. Be specific and very honest!
Shipping is FREE both ways! There's a prepaid envelope to send back any items that don't make the cut. If you are in love with all 5 items and keep it all, you get a 25% discount. Stitch Fix also has a generous referral program. You get a $25 credit to your account for each person you refer who schedules a fix!
